This blog is devoted to exploring my love of the writings of Irish playwright John Millington Synge and the Aran Islands.

The title of this blog, "Letters to Aran," is a play on the title of the book "Letters to Molly," a collection of Synge's letters to Molly Allgood. While I won't be writing actual letters on this site (though the occasional letter may show up), I'd like to think of this blog as one big love letter to Synge and Aran.

J.M. Synge (1871-1909) made five visits to Aran during his lifetime, and he found artistic inspiration on these windswept islands in County Galway.
